Little Switzerland, Blue Ridge Parkway Gem

Little Switzerland is a hidden gem found directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 334. This small town is the epitome of Western North Carolina, from the charm and hospitality to the endless mountain views – it is a must visit.

With a population of around 50, you won’t visit a more unique mountain town. Surrounded by breathtaking views, Little Switzerland offers the perfect getaway for outdoor enthusiasts, and is ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

When you arrive, the stress of life just melts away and is replaced by calm and relaxation. We have compiled a list of the three A’s: Accommodations, Adventures, and Appetite!  If you have any questions about Little Switzerland or our trip please shoot us an email!

Accommodations

Switzerland Inn is biggest and oldest hotel in Little Switerland, dating back to 1910, with a variety of lodging options – from casual quarters in the Main Lodge to mountain view suites and rustic cottages. They also have a restaurant, spa, pool and many spots to enjoy the views.

We stayed in the Caprice Cottage, which once served as the tea room for the original 1910 Switzerland Inn. The unique round architecture gives the cottage beautiful cathedral ceilings. The room has a king size bed, gas fireplace with couch to relax, huge soaking tub in one wing, and full bath and shower in another wing.

Our family loved having a fireplace in the room – it made the room very cozy and warm after being outside in the cooler weather. We also used the hot tubs in the rain which was a lot of fun. Do not miss the fire pit area with several rocking chairs, the views there are spectacular!

The Switzerland Inn was taking several precautions for Covid-19 and we felt very safe and comfortable there.

Adventures

Emerald Village – Emerald Village is home to 12 historic REAL mines, and has a very unique setting in the mountains. Our girls loved “mining” for gems here and we were the first to arrive (go early to have the place to yourself). We have gem mined before where the staff was more hands on explaining the gems, but they did not do that here (which could be because of Covid).

Relax/Unwind – No this may not be an adventure, but this was why we came to Little Switzerland in the first place. Being unplugged as a family in the mountains and getting to stare out at the mountains while in the hot tub laughing together was just perfection.

Apetite

Chalet Restaurant – Fine dining with amazing views at Switerland Inn. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and truly a culinary experience. The staff was kind and very accommodating to our littles.

Terrace Dining – The menu of Chalet Restaurant but outdoor dining at Switerland Inn. Again – the food was excellent and we were all delighted with the quality/presentation!

Until next time…
