Sevierville Tennessee, A Mountain Family Playground

Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee lies a city that blends family fun and nature in pure harmony, Sevierville. At every curve in the mountain road lies something new and exciting for all ages, from go-karts and mountain coasters to the southern fare and locally brewed beer.

Our adventure took place over three days, though we could have easily stayed a full week (and still not done it all). Sevierville not only has an abundance of family friendly activities, but is a gorgeous city with many natural wonders, including cascading waterfalls and lush forests. Grab your favorite pair of Shady Rays and step into the sunshine as we explore the city (use code Sevierville25 for 25% off!).

Accommodations

We stayed at the epic Wilderness at the Smokies Waterpark Resort and Family Adventure Center. Home to two outdoor waterparks and the state’s largest indoor water park, Wilderness at the Smokies Water Park Resort is a great place to stay year-round. From the wave pool to the family tube slides and splash pad, this was one of the greatest resorts for families with kids of all ages!

We stayed at the Stone Hill Lodge. Our room had two queen beds and a sleeper sofa, easily sleeping our family of four comfortably. Stone Hill Lodge is across the street from the water park, and they offer a shuttle every 10 minutes going back and forth (very convenient). Each room has a refrigerator, something we have found a lot of hotels to be lacking, so that was a bonus as well.

The water park at Wilderness at the Smokies is unlike anything I have seen at a resort before. There was genuinely SO much to do, both indoor and out. Our kids couldn’t get enough, and I am fairly certain they would have stayed there all day every day. There is a fun tiki bar area to get food and drinks, and an indoor arcade that will have your children on cloud nine. This is definitely the place to be for a family!

Adventures

NASCAR SpeedPark Smoky Mountains – Get ready for a theme park of family fun, and one that your children will never want to leave. NASCAR SpeedPark Smoky Mountains caters to families, and I really appreciated their go-kart tracks for little ones (they can ride their own go-karts!). You can find numerous things here, like several go-kart tracks, an arcade, two mini gold courses, and state-of-the-art virtual reality simulators.

We had planned to spend about 3-4 hours here, and ended up staying for 6! There is THAT much to do, and it was so much fun. It can get hot midday, so spend your morning on the outdoor tracks and rides. Enjoy lunch inside, followed by arcade games. Definitely try the virtual reality simulator, our whole family was able to participate and it was a highlight of our trip.

RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo – The RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo is home to more than 600 animals of 140 different species. From reptiles to birds, and goats to pet – this is not only a fun stop for all ages, but educational. We were able to watch meals for the animals being prepared, learn about several species of animals, and pet/feed goats and sheep outside (buy the bag of food for a small additional fee – it is worth it!). We had a great time here, and spent around 1.5 hours at this stop.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park – Sevierville is a hub of family-fun, but lets not forget natural areas like the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Your options really do seem endless, including golf, hiking, zip-lining, canoeing, horseback riding, chasing waterfalls, and so much more. Be sure to get out there and see the beautiful nature in the area!

Appetite

The DINER – Step back in time at The DINER, enjoy southern hospitality and delicious homemade food at this locally owned restaurant in Sevierville. The decor and theme just screams 50’s, and I love everything about it. They have stayed true to the roots of old fashioned diners, offering well priced traditional home-cooked meals. Better yet, the food is fantastic. Finish your all-American dining experience with some homemade pie or milkshake – save room! I highly recommend the burgers, mmmm…

Flapjacks – Breakfast is crucial when traveling with kiddos, so important to have everyone well fed before an adventure. Flapjacks is the place for pancakes, waffles & other hearty breakfast eats. The portions are huge, my husband and I split the smothered chicken biscuit skillet (SO GOOD – highly recommend). This is a great stop to start the day, and very family-friendly.

Applewood Farmhouse RestaurantApplewood Farmhouse Restaurant is a staple when visiting Sevierville for hearty Southern comfort food. After sitting down you are treated to apple fritters with apple butter and an apple julep. I am still dreaming about those apple fritters. Next, time to order! You cannot go wrong with this menu, everything is cooked to perfection. I could not make up my mind, so I went with the sampler and tried it all! Every meal is served with soup or salad, two farmhouse sides, and dessert. Believe me, when I say bring your appetite, I mean it! The service is second to none, and you will truly feel like part of the family.

Now go enter that giveaway!

Until next time…

  1. We just got home yesterday from a trip to a hotel with an indoor waterpark and it was amazing! I’d love to try it in different cities, too. This one looks like a great place for the kids.

  2. Looks like such a fun time! There’s so much to do to keep the family entertained. We don’t have much like that around here that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
