24 Hours in Page, Arizona

Page is a small town in northern Arizona located on the southern shores of magnificent Lake Powell. It is a small but mighty desert town full of things to do, and not to be looked over. With impressive river bends, slot canyons and jaw-dropping landscapes, the opportunities for family fun in Page are endless.

One thing to note is that Page is very close to the Utah state line, which follows daylight saving time (Arizona does not). That being said – our phones were changing time every other step we took, and it got very confusing – so do yourself a favor and set your phone to Arizona Time (Pacific Time).

Accommodations

We were so excited to arrive at our hotel, Hyatt Place Page / Lake Powell. First and foremost, because they have an amazing pool that overlooks the beautiful canyons (and it was over 100 degrees outside!). Secondly, everything about Hyatt Place Page / Lake Powell was exceptional. The staff was kind and welcoming, our room was clean with crisp linens, the in-house restaurant (Prickly Pear Kitchen) was delicious, and it was centrally located to all things in the area.

Our room had two queen beds, a separate living space with a pull-out sofa, and a modern bathroom. To make it even better, the view! We had the pleasure of watching the sunset over the canyons right outside our window. Hyatt Place Page / Lake Powell is dog-friendly (do not tell our dog that), has a fitness center, concierge that can help you book activities in the area, and FREE breakfast (yup, I said free!). The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious, with several options for even the pickiest eaters.

We had an excellent stay here and would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area.

Adventures

Epic Adventure Rides – There is a reason they named this company Epic Adventure Rides : it is epic and SUPER adventureous! We had the absolute joy of going on the 1.5 hour sunset ride through the canyons and cliffs. As luck would have it, we were the only ones scheduled on that off-season weekday & had a private ride! Jamin was our tour guide and he was beyond excellent. He was super encouraging to us as drivers, knowledgeable about the area and history, and was great at keeping out kids engaged.

Hop in your UTV and go off-roading through some of the most beautiful landscape in Arizona while the sun sets and puts on a show of colors. Jamin took us to slot canyons, was our own personal photographer – knowing all the right settings and angles, and made sure we were comfortable the whole time. This was a highlight of our road trip and I highly recommend booking an off-roading adventure for the whole family. You can fit 5 to a UTV, and I would recommend kiddos sit in the front, the back gets bouncy (that added to the adventure for me!).

Lower Antelope Canyon – I don’t know if you can visit Page without seeing Antelope Canyon. You’ve seen the photos and wondered, is it worth the price? YES, it is! I almost canceled our time slot because there were so many rules and it just made me nervous to bring the kids. Well, I kept our tour time with Ken’s Tours and let me tell you – our guide was fantastic. I never felt rushed (though another company’s group kept coming up behind us), our guide took so many photos (I mean A LOT) of everyone in our group. There were 8 in our group and everyone was so kind and lovely to be around. Masks are required (unless taking photos) and you are required to go down ladders to get in and out of the canyon. The tours fill up quickly, so book well in advance. We went on the 8:30 AM tour and it was perfect because the temperature was perfect!

Horseshoe Bend – Another popular photo that comes from Page is Horseshoe Bend. Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River – and it is a short hike of .6 miles one way. That being said, there is zero shade on this hike. Yes, it is technically short and it is a relatively easy walk – but we did it at noon and it was almost intolerable with the heat. That was, of course, our own mistake – but learn from it (haha)! Bring water and wear a hat.

Lake Powell – Lake Powell is iconic, and with its dropping water levels it is even more wild to witness in person. This is an amazing place to rent a boat and explore on your own. Given our time constraint we did not have the ability to do this, but I thought it was worth mentioning. We did stop to see Lake Powell from a scenic overlook.

Apetite

Prickly Pear Kitchen – Located inside the Hyatt Place Page / Lake Powell, Prickly Pear Kitchen gives you a taste of Canyon Country. The food is fresh and cooked to perfection, and the seasoning is spot on. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos and crab cakes, I am still dreaming about those! The flatbread appetizer was such a unique and flavorful twist to a traditional pizza with a honey glaze (YUM!). The service was great too, with our server taking the time to ask how our day was and give some local tips. Be sure to try some of their signature cocktails and desserts, it is the perfect ending to an adventure-filled day in Page!

Grand Canyon Brewery & Distillery – We had a quick stop here after our UTV tour to enjoy some local brews. Grand Canyon Brewery had a great vibe to it – with pool tables, salt tables, casual lounge seating, and a great bar with fun tree trunk seats. Our kids had fun playing on the salt tables while we sipped on some cold refreshing beer.
