Down a winding path nestled in pine trees lies the oasis of Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake. Here, you step back in time, disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with family. Migis Lodge is family-focused – offering personalized service, exceptional meals, kid’s camp, wholesome atmosphere, and so much more.
Even though it is just 40 minutes from Portland, Migis Lodge is a world away. After arriving on-site you immediately feel lighter, more relaxed – the staff and other guests are incredibly welcoming. To put it simply, Migis is like summer camp for adults and children alike (but with much better food and cabins).

We met people from all over the country, most of which have been visiting for multiple years. Migis is multigenerational, with one family marking their 50th year visiting (now with grandchildren in tow). No matter where you travel from, you are sure to experience Maine at it’s finest, surrounded by solitude and bliss that can only come from nature.

I have compiled a list of the three A’s: Accommodations, Adventures, and Appetite! If you have any questions about Migis Lodge or our trip please send me an email!
Accommodations
We stayed in a one-bedroom lodge-style cabin, with rocking chairs on the porch and a beautiful stone fireplace that is prepared each day to make cozy fire on the cool Maine summer nights. Small details are not overlooked, from the bookshelves lined with classics to fresh flowers on the table.

Our cabin was the perfect size for our family of four. Our living room was huge, with beautiful expansive ceilings, a modern updated bathroom with shower and separate tub, a large closet with a rollaway bed, and one oversized bedroom with two queen beds. Migis has 8 spacious rooms in the Main Lodge, and 35 private cottages with porch with views of the lake.

No matter where you stay, you will love the rugged feel of the paths lined with firewood. Everything about Migis is charming, and take it from our experience… it is really hard when it comes time to leave!
Adventures
With scheduled activities each day, Migis makes planning your day easy. After breakfast we started they day off knee boarding and water skiing (complimentary). Joey was captaining the boat and was a great teacher with an infectious positive attitude. The boat runs at 10 AM & 2PM (with a boat around 7-8 AM for advanced individuals). There was also many other water sports to chose from: kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, canoeing, and fishing. There is daily exercises consisting of pilates, yoga, and boot camp.

There was also horse shoes, pickle ball, and tennis. My husband took the pickle ball clinic and really enjoyed it. These activities are all there for you to enjoy at your leisure, and you can opt in or relax reading a book in your cabin. After dinner there is an activity planned out also, we enjoyed Bingo night and Karaoke (everyone is SO encouraging of participants, it was so much fun!).

The highlight of our children’s time at Migis was definitely Kid’s Camp. Kid’s Camp runs from 11-4 each day, and our kids had the pure joy of walking themselves to camp each day and feeling “so cool”. They have arts and crafts, play grounds, a zip-line, and daily activities planned. Our kids enjoyed shaving cream whiffle ball and a boat ride to the candy store, not to mention how amazing the staff is with the children.

Each night from 5:30-9pm is kid’s camp aptly named “the Zoo”. All of the children have dinner together then go to the playground to play and do more arts and crafts. My girls made true friendships with the children in camp, they encouraged each other in the mornings during water sports, cheered for them during karaoke, and made core memories. I can see why families keep coming back!
I should also point out that Migis has a challenged called the “Migis Mile”. This is where you swim to their private island (one mile away) and receive a t-shirt so people can “ohh” and “ahh” over your accomplishment. While our kiddos were in kid’s camp we decided to spend our afternoon attempting this challenge (probably should have just read a book and relaxed haha), and we succeeded! You are required to have a spotter, so I kayaked while my husband swam there, and he kayaked back while I swam. Be sure to swim the direct path, we went the wrong way and my husband ended up swimming way farther than he needed to!

Apetite
Migis is an American Plan resort, which is very similar to an all-inclusive (excluding alcohol). I would dare say the American Plan offers more sophistication, such as dress codes with dinner (men must wear collared shirts and jackets) and offers an upscale dining experience.
Every meal at Migis is exceptional, from the cook-outs to dining in the main hall. At breakfast, enjoy a buffet or select food off the menu. Enjoy an omelet from the brilliant chefs that cook them to perfection in front of you. We enjoyed a selection of pancakes (with and without blueberries), French toast, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, cereals, pastries, coffee/tea, fresh juices, and so much more each morning. I am happy to report they also take food allergies into account, with several options for those with gluten or dairy sensitivities. If your child is going to attend “the Zoo” that evening, you will fill out their dinner order and give that to your server at breakfast.

We loved lunchtime, it was like camp for us adults. Our first lunch was a private island cookout, yup you read that correctly! We were chartered over on their boat to a private island with a brilliant cookout waiting for us. The cookout lunch offered freshly grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, filet mignon, a fruit station, ample sides, and to our surprise- some ice cold beers! We grabbed a seat on one of the large rocks and enjoyed the lake view and cool breeze as we enjoyed our lunch and the company of other guests. Our other two lunches were also cookouts at Migis Lodge next to the lake and had similar food offerings (including, but not limited to: fajitas, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, ice cream bar, brownies, cookies, and so much more).

And then there is dinner… oh Migis you spoil your guests! Dinner is a 5-course culinary experience, and yes, it is definitely an experience. Once you are seated, you receive a menu with multiple options for each course. You will receive an appetizer, soup, salad, main course, and dessert. My husband and I always got different options so we could try as much as possible. Everything is cooked to perfection, with no detail left out. With 5 options for the main course, you also had the option of the Chef’s Table (I chose this every single night haha). The Chef’s Table had a hand-carved meat station and whole Maine lobsters each night, with several sides. I am drooling just thinking about it. The menu changes every night, and you will get to experience a wide variety of meats and fish (and vegetarian options).

It goes without saying, you will not go hungry at Migis. Do yourself a favor, book the trip!
Until next time…

LOL on the name being ‘the zoo.’ I think a retreat is always a good idea. Even better when it’s all-inclusive.
