All-Inclusive Family Trip to Jamaica

The anticipation was palpable as we counted down the days to our long-awaited family vacation to Jamaica. You see, my husband and I have history with the beautiful island of Jamaica – we were married in 2011 in Negril! I have long awaited bringing my children to the sun-drenched beaches with rhythmic beats of reggae music, and the promise of unforgettable adventures at this Caribbean paradise. Waking before dawn, we embarked on a journey to the Holiday Inn Resort in Jamaica, a destination that offered not only relaxation but also an array of family-friendly experiences.

From the moment we set foot on this tropical island to the day we reluctantly bid farewell, every step of the journey was filled with unforgettable experiences. So, grab a virtual beach chair, soak in the island vibes, and let us take you on a journey to the Holiday Inn Resort in Jamaica – where family fun and relaxation collide in the most magical way.

When traveling internationally with kids, finding the perfect family-friendly resort is essential. That’s why we chose the Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica. The moment we arrived, we knew we were in for a treat. The lobby was incredibly welcoming, and the kids were immediately drawn to the large freeform pool and welcome drinks, not to mention the crystal clear water on the beaches.

Our one-bedroom suite was spacious and comfortable, complete with a separate living area (our favorite), an expansive private balcony overlooking the ocean, and all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. The room was modern and updated, with impressive cleanliness and attention to detail, making us feel right at home. We had a beautiful tiled bathroom with two showers (yes, TWO!). The room had a pull-out couch in the living room, a card table, and refrigerator. We loved our private space here, it was ideal to come back and relax during the afternoon showers.

One of the highlights of our stay was the resort’s stunning private beach. The soft, white sand and crystal-clear waters were perfect for building sandcastles, swimming, and snorkeling. There is a gorgeous footpath through the reef, as not to disturb the wildlife) that takes you to the back of the private island. This is where you can find an extensive coral reef ecosystem teeming with tropical fish. We were able to see puffer fish, lion fish, and so many tropical fish that we were mezmerized! Bringing a goggle and snorkel is a must!

If you choose to spend you morning by the pool, you can participate in daily water aerobics in the morning (something we loved), followed by trivia where you can win prizes. In the afternoons there were games for adults and children alike. The Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica knows how to entertain its guests, and have fun while doing it!

The resort provided complimentary water sports equipment, and we enjoyed kayaking as a family. They also offer oceanfront mini golf, a life size chess board, pool table, ping pong, and foosball. There is a large playground for the kiddos to run wild. The Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica also offers a fantastic complimentary Kids’ Club, where children can made new friends and participate in exciting activities like arts and crafts, beach games, and even a mini talent show.

The resort boasts a variety of dining options that cater to all tastes. There are five sit-down restaurants on site, as well as a variety of walk-up quick service stations. One thing worth mentioning about all the sit-down restaurant – they blew us away (and all had a separate menu just for kids). These aren’t just average places to eat, they are up-scale with high class food and service. Be sure to make reservations upon check-in at the resort, they fill up fast. Here I will break down all the food options that Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica offers:

Portside Buffet – This is the main resort restaurant located next to the lobby overlooking the pool and Caribbean Sea, offering a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had breakfast and lunch here every day. I loved the expansive options that would satisfy even the pickiest eaters. There was a kids area of the buffet with lower countertops so they could serve themselves – offering all their favorites. There was an omelet station every morning, and in the afternoons there was a grill with steaks, chicken, pork, etc… There was so many options for all meals – with healthy salad bars and fruit, to more indulgent pasta and meat dishes. No reservations required.

Seabreeze Restaurant – Located on the east beach, Seabreeze Restaurant offers fresh seafood dishes that are an absolute delight for the senses. Seabreeze Restaurant has a five course menu, so come hungry! Each bite was a burst of oceanic flavor, perfectly seasoned and expertly prepared. I got the surf and turf – the succulent grilled lobster melted in the mouth, while the tender filet mignon was cooked perfectly. My husband got the Seafood Diablo and it was fantastic. Reservations required.

De Terrace – Located in the main building on the second floor overlooking the Caribbean Sea – I recommend a reservation at sunset, you will get some amazing views. De Terrace is a restaurant offering Jamaican and Caribbean flavors, every bite transported us to the heart of Jamaica. Another five course menu is offered here, each option has a harmonious blend of spices, herbs, and fresh ingredients. I enjoyed the goat dish while my husband chose the oxtail. Both traditional dishes that did not disappoint. Reservations required.

Kenko Japanese Restaurant – Hibachi anyone? The cuisine at Kenko was a sizzling, savory delight that unfolded right before our eyes. The chef skillfully wielded knives and spatulas, turning fresh ingredients into a mesmerizing performance of taste and artistry. My kids are now obsessed with Hibachi restaurants, as they loved to watch him cook! It was another extensive 5 course meal, and you select two entrees (which are the proteins). I selected grilled shrimp and beef tenderloin. They offer steamed rice as an option if your children (or yourself) do not want the fried rice. It was a dining experience that combined deliciousness with entertainment, leaving us full and thoroughly entertained. Reservation required. Please note this restaurant is not part of the All-Inclusive meal plan; a premium charge of US $29 per person applies, and children 12 and under eat free.

Sorrento Italian – Sorrento Italian is a culinary gem that takes you on a journey to Italy without ever leaving the Caribbean. This charming air-conditioned restaurant captures the essence of Italian cuisine with flair. Get ready for another five course meal, but before you even order you are presented with freshly baked focaccia bread, I can still smell it! I had the bruschetta, Caesar salad and lasagna, my husband had the calamari and lamb pasta dish. Let me just say, we have been to Italty – and this rivaled some of the food we had there. My daughter had the wood-fired pizza, and we all delighted in the desserts, especially the creamy homemade tiramisu. Do yourself a favor and make sure you dine here on your trip! Reservations required. Resort elegant attire (long pants and collared shirts for men).

Jerk Hut – Looking for something quick? Located on the West end of the hotel, the Jerk Hut offers authentic Jamaican jerk cuisine like no other! Open from 12-6pm, this is the perfect spot to come as you are (bathing suit and all) and get some jerk chicken or pork, and you have to try the hot sauce with it! This is a resort favorite, and it is no secret as to why!

Barefoot Bar & Grill – Located next to the main pool, Barefoot Bar & Grill offers burgers, sandwiches, fries, and grilled cheese. This is also a full service bar, so pull up a chair and relax around the pool with your meal. This is a convenient place to eat if you don’t want to go back to your room and change for lunch at the buffet.

Jus’ Kiddin‘ – Located in between the pool and jerk hut you can find Jus’ Kiddin’. Well named, this spot is a kid’s paradise with hot dogs, nachos, and all you can eat ice cream cones. Our kids LOVED coming here to get their ice cream every day!

After dinner, don’t head back to your room just yet. Evenings at the Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica were filled with entertainment for the whole family. We loved watching the electric violinist, and our favorite was definitely the steel drum band that put on an energetic performance that had us all dancing.

While I have mentioned all the family inclusive things, it is worth noting there is an adults only area of the resort with a private pool and bar. Port Royal is also an adults only bar in the main building. The Rosehall Lounge is also an exclusive adults-only lounge dedicated to the RoseHall Club patrons – we stopped in here for some champagne to celebrate our anniversary.

Our family’s stay at the Holiday Inn Resort Jamaica was nothing short of incredible. The combination of family-friendly amenities and the natural beauty of Jamaica made this trip unforgettable. We returned home with cherished memories and the desire to revisit this tropical paradise in the future. If you’re planning a family vacation in Jamaica, we highly recommend this resort for an exceptional experience that both parents and kids will treasure forever.
